Settling your child at the nursery
For most children, their first day at nursery may be their first experience of a group setting. We expect all parents/carers to stay for the first few sessions to familiarise their child with the staff members and the nursery environment. You will be introduced to your child's keyperson who will support your child's transition from home to nursery. The key person will also be able to provide you with daily information on your child's progress as well as general queries you may have.
Funding & Free Childcare Support
We know childcare is expensive. That’s why we’re pleased to offer funded childcare hours and help you through the process of applying for Government support. Below you can find guidance for both working parents and non-working parents who may still be eligible.
For Working Parents: 15- or 30-Hours Free Childcare
If you and your partner (if you have one) are working, self-employed, or on leave (maternity, paternity, shared parental, sick leave, etc.), you could qualify for either 15 or 30 hours of free childcare per week depending on your child’s age.
- From 9 months up to school-age: eligible working parents can access up to 30 hours per week free childcare (from September 2025).
- For 3–4-year-olds: up to 30 hours per week for working parents, or at least 15 hours universal entitlement.
How to apply: Free Childcare for Working Parents: Apply for free childcare - GOV.UK
If you’re not working — but receive certain benefits or are on low income you may still qualify for free childcare. For example, for a 2-year-old you can get 15 hours per week funded childcare, a term after your child turns 2. If you or your child receive relevant support (benefits, low income, disability allowance, looked-after status, etc.)
For all 3- and 4-year-olds, there is a universal entitlement of 15 hours per week (for 38 weeks a year) regardless of whether parents are working or not.
